Internal Health Signals

Your body communicates valuable information every day — sometimes in the simplest ways.
The colour of your urine and the shape of your stool can reveal important clues about hydration, digestion, and overall wellness.

At Kulhay Wellness Centre, our team uses these natural signs as part of a holistic approach to understanding your inner health. Through naturopathic medicine, holistic nutrition, and live blood cell microscopy, we help you interpret these signals and create a personalized plan that supports balance, vitality, and optimal function.

Use the charts below to better understand what your body may be telling you.

Understanding the Bristol Stool Chart

The Bristol Stool Chart is a visual tool that helps assess digestive health by showing stool form and consistency. Each type can give clues about hydration, diet, and gut function:

Type 1: Separate hard lumps, like nuts – may indicate constipation or slow gut transit.

Type 2: Sausage-shaped but lumpy – often a sign of mild constipation.

Type 3: Like a sausage with cracks on the surface – considered normal, healthy stool.

Type 4: Smooth, soft sausage or snake – ideal stool, easy to pass.

Type 5: Soft blobs with clear edges – may indicate mild diarrhea or fast transit.

Type 6: Fluffy pieces with ragged edges, mushy – can be a sign of mild diarrhea.

Type 7: Watery, entirely liquid – often indicates severe diarrhea or very fast transit.

Understanding Your Urine Colour

The colour of your urine is one of the easiest ways to check your hydration and overall internal health. Here’s what each shade can indicate:

  • Very pale yellow / almost clear: Well-hydrated; ideal for most people.

  • Light yellow: Healthy and hydrated; your body is balanced.

  • Medium yellow: Slightly dehydrated; drink a little more water.

  • Dark yellow / amber: Dehydrated; increase fluid intake.

  • Very dark amber: Significant dehydration; consider rehydrating and monitoring diet and lifestyle.

Regularly observing the colour of your urine and the form of your stool can provide valuable insights into your hydration, digestion, and overall internal health. For personalized guidance, you can book with our team of experts: Dr. Tanzeela Javed, ND, Shannon Kulhay, Live Blood Cell Microscopist, or Ashley Travassos, CNP, who can help you understand these signals and support your overall well-being.
