WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT?
You will be given a few papers to fill out about your general personal information, health and pain concern. Then Dr. Zawi will greet you and take you to the treatment room.
On your first visit, Dr. Zawi will perform a history and ask you questions about your present pain complaint, personal and family medical history, major illnesses you have experienced, surgeries or operations you have had, medications you are taking, your diet and exercise, your sleeping habits, daily activities, work routine, stress level, and home life.
After the history, Dr. Zawi will then proceed with a physical exam. It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for your first visit to the chiropractor. Some tests that might be performed are checking of your blood pressure, a test of your reflexes, strength and sensations, an analysis of your posture and movement, orthopedic tests, muscle testing and a hands-on evaluation of how well your spine moves which identifies restrictions and areas of improper motion.
Bring a copy of any X-rays or radiology reports you have. These assessments give Dr. Zawi a better picture of your complete health. She will then explain the diagnosis, recommend a course of treatment, and once informed consent has been discussed, treatment usually begins.
A treatment plan might include spinal joint adjustments, soft tissue therapy, ultrasound, electrotherapy, laser, orthotic recommendation, therapeutic exercises, dietary counseling and lifestyle advice.
